           CLASSES ~ EVENTS



All classes & events are held at our home on Lazy Mountain, unless otherwise noted.

$10/person for the Saturday bread classes & $15/person for the special cooking classes.


WHOLE GRAINS 101, GETTING STARTED ~ Saturday, March 3 at 10 AM (note time change from previous announcements). Learn all the basics about grains, bake some bread, eat pizza, and take home cinnamon rolls. $10/per person


SPRING CO-OP ORDER CYCLE ~ To save money on consumables, keep your eyes peeled for the spring order cycle announcement in mid March. Don’t place your order yet, as I need to develop the order form, but just want to get you thinking about it! Here’s a peak preview of a couple of new items…

  • Dried Figs ~ amazingly soft & chewy. So delicious, my hubby loves munching on a few.

  • 2 gallon pails with gamma lids or regular lids.



A MEXICAN EASTER BREAKFAST CLASS ~ Tuesday, March 27th at 6 pm. Let’s whip up some of the delicious recipes we DID NOT serve at the Mexican Fiesta. Mexican Potatoes with Chorizo (homemade sausage) with Chile Rellenos & Chorizo Casserole, New Mexico Spoon Bread, & Toasted Oat, Coconut & Almond Granola. One of the Hot Chocolate recipes & Fruit Salad will round out the evening. You might want to pick up one of the notebooks by the end of the feast!



APHEA Homeschool Convention ~ Friday & Saturday, April 6 & 7th, at Muldoon Christian Assembly. Go to their website for all the details. http://aphea.org/convention/ Find us in the Vendors Exhibit Hall. You don’t want to miss it!


MINI MEXICAN FIESTA ~ Tuesday, April 10th, 6 pm. If you missed the full length event, Terry Vogus & I will share some of our new skills. We will start with corn & flour tortillas. Let us know if you have some other requests from the notebook. It is all good!

From the dessert section, this one looks easy enough…

         ¾ C milk                                             ¼ C butter

2 eggs, beaten                                  3 C all-purpose sifted flour, whole grain of course!

1 t baking powder                                 1 t salt

fat/oil for frying                                      anise (traditional) or maple syrup


  1. In saucepan, heat milk and butter to boiling, take off heat to allow to cool.

  2. Stir in beaten eggs. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt until well mixed.

  3. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth (2-3 minutes).

  4. Cut and shape into 20 balls. Allow to rest at least 10 minutes.

  5. Roll each ball into a 4” circle.

  6. Heat frying oil to 375*.Fry a few bunuelos at a time, until golden brown. Drain onto paper toweling.

  7. Drizzle with syrup of choice…serve while warm.


ANISE SYRUP: In saucepan, bring 1 C packed dark brown sugar (or piconcillo), 1 C water, and 1 T anise seed to a full boil. Reduce heat and boil gently, uncovered, 10-15 minutes of until syrup is thickened.

Makes ¾ cup.


Debbie made a huge batch of this Guacamole. Not a teaspoon left at the end of lunch! Moral to that story… get it while the getting is good!

4 ripened avocados                                  1 lime

2 cloves garlic, minced                             1 roma tomato, diced

½ small sweet onion, diced small

1 jalapeno, seeded and minced fine

dash cumin                                                salt to taste


1. Mash avocados in medium mixing bowl, with fork or pastry cutter.

2. Squeeze juice from lime over the avocado. Add tomato, garlic, onion, jalapenos and cumin and stir until mixed.

3. Add salt to taste.

4. If desired, add 3 T fresh cilantro to the guacamole

1 C long grain brown rice                                8 oz tomatoes, diced with juice

1 medium onion, chopped                              1 garlic clove, minced

2 T olive oil                                                      1 C water (or chicken broth)

½ t salt (¼ t if using broth)                              ½ t cumin

1 fresh green chile, trimmed and chopped


1. Heat oil in medium sized heavy skillet. Add rice, onion, and garlic and cook over medium heat until rice becomes slightly brown to golden brown in color and onion is translucent, stirring as to not burn or stick to bottom of pot.

2. Add tomatoes with juice, green chile, the water/broth, salt and cumin.

3. Cover and let cook over medium heat until tender (in a regular pan that will be approximately 50 minutes, in the Sizzle pot that will be about 40 minutes, and in a pressure cooker it will be about 20 minutes.)

4. Remove cover, toss rice with fork, return cover and allow rice to sit for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Directions to 15091 Lazy Lady Lane  in Palmer:

Come to Palmer via the Glenn Highway. At the last light before heading to Glennallen, turn onto Arctic headed out of town toward the Butte, from Anchorage a right hand turn. Proceed about 3 miles across the Matanuska River to Clark Wolverine Road on the left. Turn up C W Road, following all the signs and general traffic pattern, go another 3 miles. Where Clark continues straight, turn left onto Wolverine Road. Go 1.5 miles to Lazy Lady Lane on the left. We are the 5th driveway on the right. Wholy Living signs should direct you right on in. Allow about an hour from Muldoon and 30 minutes from Freds in Wasilla except during the 5 pm rush hour traffic. If necessary, give us a call ~ 745-5639.
