WOW!!! What a wonderful summer ~~ weather, fun, adventure, harvest... God is so GOOD to us, so undeserving critters. Now we're back to the fall treadmill... school, canning, storing away for the winter. This year however, I'll have a fulltime husband, retired after 30+ years one the job. We'll wait on the Lord to see what impact this has on our lives, ministries, business, & family. Needless to say, I am very excited!!!!
1 ~ Please return the order form and at least half payment by OCTOBER 17th. The goal is to have the order here by the week of NOVEMBER 17th, prior to Thanksgiving. Plan for 6 months since the next order won't be here until mid-May. Let's do a BOSCH II class at my home on Thursday, OCTOBER 9th, 10 am and another one on Friday, OCTOBER 10th in Anchorage. Aletha Roach (677-1557) graciously offered to host it. Call one of us to reserve your spot and offer to bring some necessary ingredients. We'll demonstrate the major Bosch attachments as we whip up a batch of bread, an angel food cake, quiche, blender may, a fruit smoothie, & a soup or stew. We held one in FBX in January ? what a marathon, but lots of fun!! First timers, experienced chefs, and budding homemakers are welcome.
2 ~ To save on postage & printing costs, I'd like to start an email list. If you want to stay on the snail mail list, that's fine. If you don't mind receiving this same newsletter & order form via email, write your preferred email address on the order form. We might even put together a monthly recipe & hints newsletter for the emailers. I learn from you folks all the time & it would be fun to share on a more regular basis. Periodically, Bosch & Mill specials become available, so I would also share those good deals via email, since I'm too lazy to send out flyers.
3 ~ Please verify your mailing address on the mailing label and provide any necessary changes.
4 ~ WHAT'S NEW?? GOLDEN FLAX SEEDS ~ a lighter honey color seed, makes it easier to 'hide' with the same healthful benefits!! Raw, unprocessed ORANGE BLOSSOM HONEY tastes delicious, available in 1 gallon & 3? gallon sizes. FIBREX ~ nondairy dough enhancer made from sugar beets, extends the shelf life of bread. DEHYDRATED MIXED RED & GREEN VEGETABLES ~ a popular item during Y2K, without the potato slices this time, a convenience item for quick soups. ENER SOY andQWENCH herbal enhanced drink mixes ? ENER SOY is a yummy meal replacement powerhouse, high in protein & fiber, low in carbs. Try Chocolate Gorge, Strawberry Wild or Vanilla Summit ~ mix with a cup of water or blend with fruit for a smoothie, $12 for 12 servings. Qwench Drink Mixes are a wonderful alternative to Sobies ? more economical, always at your fingertips. Chock full of herbs and nutrients - Try FAT BURNER - TANGARINE ORANGE or CLARITY - APPLE-KIWI OR KICKER - MANGO PEACH, $10 for a dozen 16 oz servings. Burner & kicker tickle my taste buds. Kim Bennet sells Alaskan Honey from her own hives ? 1 lb is $8.50, and ? lb is $5. Call her at 746-1729.
5 ~ BOSCH ATTACHMENTS ~~~ We'll demonstrate each one at the BOSCH II class, but these are a real time & energy saver. The 10 cup Slicer/Shredder prepares food for canning, stews, pizzas, chef salads, crowd proportions in no time ? the 5 cup Food Processor has the blade in the bowl for chopping/mincing fruit, nuts, meat, small batches of batter as well as the slicing, shredding and rasping disks ? The meat grinder is another workhorse attachment. I used it for caribou this week. Works best running full speed ahead ? #3. Surely beats paying the local butcher. Also use it for nut butters.
6 ~ BOSCH COFFEE MILL - If you haven't invested in this item, put it on your Christmas list!!! I love it!!! I use mine to mill small amounts of grain for fresh, inexpensive, hot cereal - pulverizing flax, sunflower & sesame seeds - grinding dried herbs.
1 ~ Voice of experience ? KEEP CHILDREN OUT OF YOUR GRAIN CONTAINERS. Sometimes they deposit small items in the grain, which fall into the mill, which destroys the milling heads. (The tech told me mine would make a good anchor if it were heavier.)
2 ~ HOMEMADE CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS ~~~~ Give pancake mix, granola, brownie mix, or hot cereal with dates, diced apricot or diced apple in a decorative jar, canning jar, or brown lunch bag. Fresh loaves of bread or pans of cinnamon rolls are always rewarded with a smile & warm fuzzies.
3 ~ Did you know that irritable bowel syndrome is the leading chronic ailment in the US? Prevention is ALWAYS better than a cure, so eat those high fiber grains. The following excerpt is from the Sept/Oct 2002 issue of Vibrant Life ? Processing whole grains to create a refined grain removes most of their nutritional content ? People mistakenly believe that the laws requiring white flour to be enriched, compensate for the many valuable nutrients lost during processing. It's true that a few synthetic vitamins and minerals are added to our white flour, but this doesn't even come close to restoring all the lost nutrients. Whole Wheat, for example, contains calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, zinc, copper, manganese, and selenium. It also has ascorbic acid, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6, folate, and vitamin E. Most of these nutrients are in
the bran and the germ and are stripped out during processing. The process also removes hundreds of other phytochemicals that may help reduce risk for cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Do you know anyone who thinks all carbs are fattening & refuses to eat them? Whole grains are the perfect Carbs!!! The body converts all carbohydrates into glucose. But it breaks down processed grains much more quickly than intact grains. The rapid breakdown of processed carbs often causes wide swings in blood sugar that can trigger hunger cravings, cause the release of stress hormones, and initiate the buildup of arterial plaques. Compare foods made from refined grains to quick-burning newspaper. Whole grains, on the other hand, are like logs that burn for hours and provide continuous heat. If you have lost the habit of utilizing your own whole grains, determine now to get back in the habit, building a rich heritage of good nutrition & healthy eating for your family's sake. This habit pays rich dividends for a lifetime. Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy ? Eccl.9:7. With a BOSCH, Mill, & Prairie Gold, we do eat our bread with joy & the satisfaction that this is the 'finest of the wheat."
4 ~ NUTRITIOUS, INEXPENSIVE HOT CEREAL ~~~ Try using your Bosch Coffee Mill to make instant cereal in minutes. Whip up 7 Grain Whole or another grain as fine as you like & pour into heating water. Add some flax meal, diced apricots, dates, apples & nuts for a VERY satisfying, filling breakfast for the whole family. Simmer for 5-10 minutes on low heat.
5 ~ When considering purchasing a plastic container for grain or any food item, look for the letters HDPE and/or NFS on the container which stand for 'high density polyurethane' and 'National Food Safe Seal'. You can then be assured they are food grade.
6 ~ Always refrigerate or freeze wheat germ & yeast (even the unopened packages).

Orange Rolls | ![]() |
Pancakes |
| Ruth Humphries from Fairbanks converted her family orange roll recipe to whole grains & honey. Since it has been passed down several generations, it is tried & true. | Another Fairbanks friend, Gina Trombley, offers her pancake favorite. |
Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Isaiah 55:2
What a picture God gives us in this simple verse!! Naturally, my mind thinks first of families who consume "that which is not bread ? that which satisfieth not". My body knows when it is deprived of the true bread & whole grains. I feel sickly and weak. I crave nourishment. I think everyone should "get on board" and eat the way God provided for us. When man tampers with God's best, we always lose.
Though I understand the importance of bread, I realize that the True Bread, "Jesus", is more important. John 6:47 states..."Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life". And just to make sure no one misunderstood, He went on to say in verse 51... "I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." The world tries to satisfy the soul with momentary happiness ~
entertainment, sports, busyness, music, and vices. None of these satisfies the God-given emptiness within. In Psalm 81:10, God promises to full and satisfy our hunger ~ "I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt; open thy mouth wide and I will fill it." I want to fill my time and soul with the Eternal, which lasts forever, not just the pleasures that last for a moment.
Now I need to confess to you that in my past I had a "drug
problem". My husband also had a "drug problem". We are over it
now but "fortunately" we passed it on to our children. I trust most of
your children have this same drug problem:
I had a "drug problem" when I was a young person and teenager.
I was "drug" to church on Sunday morning.
I was "drug" to church on Sunday night.
I was "drug" to church on Wednesday night.
I was "drug" to Sunday School every week.
I was "drug" to summer camp.
I was "drug" to the family altar to read the Bible and pray.
I was "drug" to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents.
Those "drugs" are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in
every thing I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or
heroin. If our children had this "drug" problem, America would
certainly be a better place.
Wholy Yours,
Margaret Loew
