Since our last issue, WHOLY LIVING added some new faces & families. This
statewide business is just too overwhelming for one family, especially since the
breadwinner half retired two years ago. To assist me, God gave us a wonderful
family in each area of the state, not only to be a grain depot, but also to be your source for information, bread classes, Bosch sales, & a grain store. In
other words, Wholy Living now has outlet stores in each region. Please welcome
aboard the following Team members ~~~
COPPER VALLEY ~ Katie Helkenn ~ 822-3469
FAIRBANKS ~ Lalena Leigh ~ 457-5763
JUNEAU ~ Janet Dunivin ~ 790-4014
KENAI PENINSULA ~ Laurel Coombs ~ 262-2173
What a wonderful business, sharing all our grand customers
with some very talented & knowledgeable representatives. We, the Wholy
Living Team, want to be a blessing to all of you.
1 ~ ORDERING INFORMATION ~ For the FALL 2005 order, please have the order form submitted by Monday, OCTOBER 17th. Lord willing, the grain will arrive the week before Thanksgiving. Like previous orders, be sure to take the 10% savings on consumables by meeting the October 17th deadline. When ordering on line, I will forward your order to your designated destination. For you snail mail customers, please return your order form to the Team member in charge of your nearest grain depot. Each of them will consolidate their regional orders & give me the tabulated totals. We will all do our best to work together to make this as smooth & efficient as possible.

2 ~ BREAD & BOSCH CLASSES ~ Remember those high school home ec cooking classes? Let's have a BOSCH COOKING CLASS on Monday, October 3rd at 6:15pm. We'll feast on an Alfredo Chicken recipe from the Flax Cookbook, delicious dinner rolls, the 7 Layer Salad, blender smoothies & whole wheat Angel Food cake. ($5/ family for supplies) At the BREAD CLASS on Thursday, October 6th at 10 am, we'll make bread, pizza & take & bake cinnamon rolls. Bring your pie plate for cinnamon rolls. Both classes focus on incorporating whole grains into your diet. Call or email to reserve a spot ~~ 745-5639 or margaret@wholyliving.com
3 ~ PRICING ~ Amazingly enough, several of our prices DECREASED ~ honey, Swiss Whey, sunflower seeds, & pecans …. One change is the apple rings. They now come in an 11# size, a little more economical # for #. Almonds were the most volatile this time.
4 ~ VISA/MC ~ At this point, you will only be able to use VISA/MC in the Peninsula area & with me. If that is a problem, one suggestion is to use one of those VISA checks that come in the mail periodically.
5 ~ ADDRESSES ~ Please give us your updated addresses, emails, phone #s. Our HC address will no longer be useable after August of '06. We want to stay current.

1 ~ VITAL GLUTEN ~ Why use Dough Enhancer instead of gluten? For our typical Prairie Gold ~ Spelt ~ Kamut bread, DE works best because it is more economical. But for other whole grain breads made with flour with little or no gluten, Vital Wheat Gluten will add the characteristics of wheat flour that makes fluffy bread.
2 ~ RICE & VEGETABLE SOUP MIX ~ This is a 25# bag mix of white rice, green split peas, yellow peas, pearled barley, lentils, whole yellow peas, and red lentils. I haven't tried them, but it really sounds delicious. We'll add it to the order form this time. Let me know if you like it!!
3 ~ WHOLY LIVING GIFT CERTIFICATES ~ A perfect Christmas, birthday, graduation, wedding, or just Because gift for anyone, friend or foe (HA!). They can redeem it for equipment, supplies, or books. You choose the amount & we'll give you a darling card & envelope.
4 ~ SWISS WHEY in 50# bags, makes approximately 70 gals. Now you can refill all those 4 gallon pails.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT HEALTHY LIVING agrees with our premise of the wonderful health benefits of whole grain. Dr. Rex Russell bases his informative treatise on three principles ~~~ Eat only substances God created for food. Avoid what is not designed for food. ~ As much as possible, eat foods as they were created - before they are changed or converted into something humans think might be better. ~ Avoid food addictions. Don't let any food or drink become your god. ~~~ It reinforced many of my eating habits & gave me more food for thought. If upgrading your family's good health is on your mind, include this book in your order. It's an easy read & practical book for every family.

COOKING WITH POWDERED MILK by Peggy Layton ~ Now you can try homemade cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, evaporated milk, buttermilk, pudding mixes, cream of onion, potato, & a bunch of variations of soups.
First from a delighted customer in Dillingham ~ I just wanted to let you know that I am so delighted with my Nutrimill and the wonderful grain. I can't believe the difference in taste; I had no idea that there would be such a difference. Even my husband, who has never been a homemade bread lover, thinks that it is the best bread ever. Linda
Lalena Leigh, our representative in Fairbanks, loves to share her insights & discoveries ~~~ If you could lower your risk of heart disease, help prevent cancer (specifically breast, colon, prostrate and lung), have better management of autoimmune disorders and relief of constipation- all of these health benefits in one easy step, would you be interested? How about for $1.00 a month and 30 seconds a day? I know- it sounds too good to be true. We all know there is no "magic pill" out there, but there is an amazing little seed that has proven to have all these benefits. Welcome to your best friend, the flax seed. Most of you have heard of this tiny nutritional powerhouse who is the richest food source of Omega-3 fatty acids and linolenic acids, the highest source (260x more than most fruits and vegetables) of lignans and contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. It's been around for 5,000 years and is quickly becoming the focus of much research as study after study is showing the incredible qualities of this natural food. If you only wanted to do one thing for your health- this would be the easiest, cheapest and have the greatest effect. If you are already eating well, staying active and pursuing health, then you definitely want to add this simple step to your regime. Many times cheaper than flax oil (that does not give you the fiber or lignan benefits) and so easy to incorporate- don't miss out on this friendship. My family has come to enjoy (and expect in anything) the crunch and taste of flax. And I am so happy to have found natural treatment of some health issues that have drained us in the past. If you are interested in knowing more about flax and how to incorporate it into your kitchen, I recommend this wonderful and interesting book, "The Flax Cookbook." You will learn 101 facts about flax along with current research and have 85 recipes to try out. This would be a great gift for someone you love and want to see in good health. How about a basket with this book and a pretty jar of flaxseed? Shhh-don't tell my Dad this is what he is getting for Christmas.: )
1 ~ Use your COFFEE MILL to make really fine bread crumbs. I toasted my bread first, broke it into a few pieces & had 3 slices done beautifully in just a few minutes.
2 ~ The FOOD PROCESSOR does a great job making sandwich spread. I opened a jar of home-canned salmon & fixed up a delicious spread, mincing the onion & garlic with mayo etc first, and then add the salmon. WOW!!! Beef or chicken would be great also.
3 ~ BREAD VARIATION ~ I blended a can of stewed tomatoes, substituting it for some water, & added minced garlic & spaghetti seasoning, for a nice flavor. Would make great bread-soup bowls.
4 ~ BOSCH MAINTANENCE ~ After 18 years, we finally replaced the blender's rubber gasket. Bosch recommends doing it yearly….oops. The blender lid is designed to loosen the blades. After cleaning them really well, just remove the old gasket & place a nice, new gray one in its place. A package of two is only $2.50. Request it on your fall or spring order. Cleaning out the center post of your bowl is also a great idea. The dough guard should keep most of the unwanted debris out, but a good cleaning once a year is in order. Just remove the screws & pull out the post. There is a slot to line up when replacing the screws, so look for it when removing them. Also, clean out the motor mount where the bowl sits. Standing liquids there is not desirable. After I wash my bowl, I always place the center part of the lid over the motor mount & put my bowl on the lid. That keeps unwanted water from draining into that motor mount area.
5 ~ YEAST ~ Remember to store all yeast in the frig or freezer, whether opened or not. Dead yeast does not activate!!
6 ~ DRIED APPLE OVEN PANCAKE ~ At the fair, I sampled a caramel apple oven pancake. Revising the recipe to use Prairie Gold flour & dried apples, it was made just like a pineapple upside down cake, quite YUM!!! Who needs box cakes anyway? Not us!!
7 ~ TOASTED FLAX SEEDS ~ Wow, just discovered a tasty topping for salads, casseroles, rolls, etc. I toasted some on an aluminum pan that had salmon flavoring left on it, which shared that fishy flavor with my flax seeds. I suggest using a glass pan.
8 ~ CANNED BREAD ~ A lady at the Fair shared the perfect way to send bread overseas to our fighting forces. Remember 'Canned Bread' from this Spring Newsletter? In the overseas heat, it feels like fresh baked when opened. (See the archives if you need the directions)
9 ~ BANANA BREAD ~ Another customer at the Fair related her speedy way to make banana bread. Put all the dry ingredients, including the sugar in the Bosch bowl. Pour all the liquids & the bananas in the blender. Run them simultaneously. Combine them in the Bosch bowl, mix & bake.
10 ~ PIES ~ Throw all your pumpkin pie ingredients into your food processor. Whirl until blended & pour into your shell. Also process all your turkey stuffing goodies in the food processor. It'll be in the oven in a jiffy!! Thanksgiving will be a snap.

1-2-3 Gingerbread Granola |
| This time of year, pumpkins are plentiful. Eat them!! Here's the perfect
recipe from Lalena in Fairbanks. Great for breakfast on the run! |
Lalena created a new version of Granola.... Next to pumpkin, molasses is warmly inspired in autumn. My mother is a molasses fiend. As I am always trying to sneak flaxseed into my parents (and kids). I just created a granola to make my mama happy and healthy. |

Our beloved Pastor preached Family Camp this summer. The theme is always the same, Back to the Biblical Family. As he challenged us, I felt led to share his thoughts with you. ~~~
Have a vision for your family. Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18. Visualize your children's lives 10 years from now. Who and what do you want your children to be? Aim them in that direction. Remember Psalm 127:4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. We need to direct our arrows to Godly targets. A man who sets no goals always succeeds. We are so excited to serve God at church with all our children. What a blessing to stand shoulder to shoulder with them ~ singing, soul winning, cleaning. God has truly blessed us with our four plus four grands!!! Wish we would have done more. ~~~
All Parents prepare children for Heaven or Hell. What an incredible responsibility. Today I read tracts explaining how many parents unknowingly prepare their children for Hell. They allow things like Harry Potter & Lord of the Rings into their child's heart. There is no such thing as good witches & bad witches. These witches teach your child to act like, dress like, talk like & live like witches. Would Jesus read it & watch it? Prepare your children for Heaven. As parents, we need to be Godly in all we do, so we can say, Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. I Cor 11:1 Five times in Leviticus, God commands us to be holy and then repeats it again in I Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy for I am holy. Don't try to be perfect, but be REAL ~ not a hypocrite. Children see right through hypocrisy. Be your child's hero. Parents influence their children more than anyone else. When you gain your child's heart, they safely trust you & will follow you. ~~~
Happiness is not having what you want, but in wanting what you have. Godliness with contentment is great gain. I Tim 6:6 I grew up in Spokane, Washington, John in Anchorage. 'Coincidentally,' this truth hung on the wall in both our homes ~ Only one life twill soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last. Reading that truth all our lives, instilled in both our hearts the true purpose of life, serving God. The inside of John's wedding band has this inscription ~ Mat 6:33. It says, But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. The gold we strive for on this earth is actually the asphalt of Heaven. All our earthly THINGS are going to burn. Children are the only THINGS we can take to Heaven. Find your happiness in a Godly heritage, don't glory in gold.
